Time to stretch your imagination and think outside the box--the cigar box!
Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife is giving artists, crafters, and everyone the opportunity to be creative with the Cigar Box Art Challenge.
Cigar boxes are at SVAFC to pick up for free for SVAFC members and $10 for non-members. WIth a limited number of boxes available, distribution will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Boxes can be picked up until November 29.
The art boxes can take any form, including painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, or assemblage. There are no guidelines or restrictions. Let creativity be your guide, but keep in mind that they will comprise a public art exhibition in January.
Please return the completed art boxes ready to display, whether it’s wall hung or free standing. Completed
boxes should be returned by December 20.
The exhibition will run January 2-31 with the boxes being auctioned off on Sunday, January 31. Anyone who becomes a member or renews their membership at SVAFC during the Cigar Box Challenge (September 1-January 31) will be entered to win one of the unique art boxes.
Here's a quick rundown of dates for the Cigar Box Challenge:
• Box pickup at SVAFC September 1-November 29 during open hours or by appointment
• Return completed boxes by December 20
• All creations on display January 2–31
• Auction January 31
All proceeds support SVAFC’s operations, programming, and special projects.
Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center, located at 114 1/2 S Main Street, is open Friday-Sunday, 1:00-5:00pm. The center provides a formal space for artists, craftsmen, and performers to share their work and provides space for lectures, workshops, and demonstrations.
